Ka-Ro extends TX family with Atmel SAMA5D4 processor-based Computer-on-Module

Aachen, 26th May 2015 - Ka-Ro electronics today announces the TXA5 Computer-on-Module, extending Ka-Ro’s TX family of CoMs to include a new ARM Cortex A5-based CoM for cost-sensitive industrial applications as well as devices requiring low-power or battery operation.

Ka-Ro-TXA5.pngThe new Ka-Ro CoM combines high performance with low power operation with an extended temperature operating range of -40°C / -25°C to 85°C. The TXA5 measures only 68 x 26 mm and offers all standard TX interfaces, including 10/100 Mbps Ethernet, two High Speed USB 2.0 ports, UARTs, I2C, SPI, I2S, LCD, SD and up to 120 general purpose I/O. 256 MB RAM and 128MB SLC NAND Flash or 4GB eMMC memory make the TXA5 a powerful newcomer to TX family and CoM market.

The Ka-Ro TXA5 has a guaranteed long-term availability of at least 10 years to protect the OEM development investment.

The Atmel SAMA5D42 Cortex A5 processor works at a clock speed of 528 MHz and has a standard 128 Kbyte L2 Cache. It features the ARMv7-A Thumb2 instruction set and the ARM TrustZone plus NEON Multimedia Architecture. The processor includes a range of integrated security features including an ‘on the fly’ encryption-decryption, tamper detection pins, secure storage of critical data, and secure boot, making it ideal for secure gateways or for IoT applications.

“Atmel processors combine an optimal mix of features and functions with attractive pricing. By incorporating Atmel processors we are taking the products of a market-proven and trusted vendor on board and look forward to extending this cooperation in future,” says Michael Vyskocil, Head of Development at Ka-Ro electronics.

OEMs benefit from the compatibility and standard pinout of all Ka-Ro CoMs in the TX family. The TX Mainboard 7, the latest development kit, is used for all Ka-Ro TX modules, simplifying and streamlining design processes and enabling development of a future-proof product. The development kit includes software and hardware support and a design review. Ka-Ro provides a high-quality Linux BSP with sources ported to the TXA5 module’s specific interfaces and released to mainline Linux for easy adaptability to any Linux development environment.
